Reporting a Fire
Do not assume a fire has been reported. Many times people think "somebody must have reported it" and they have not. Multiple reports provide more details and often allow the fire department to upgrade its response.
Tell the dispatcher where the fire is and where you are. Be clear and concise. The information you provide is critical in getting the right equipment to the right place.
Accurate, timely information can help firefighters save lives and property. Be prepared to give the following information when you report a fire:
- Location you are calling from
- Location of the fire
- Type of fire (i.e.: house, building, car, brush, etc.)
- Do you see smoke?
- Can you see flames? If so - how big.
- Is everyone out of the building?
- Any known hazards
- Your identity
